Summer is here, and while some are taking to the roads to enjoy their recreational vehicles, criminals are also on the hunt to steal these valuable RV’s. How can proactive security help prevent RV theft from dealerships?

Summer weather brings out RV thieves.

The summer months are upon us, and with that, many people will be taking to the road in their RV’s and campers to enjoy the summer weather and beautiful scenery found across the country. At the same time, thieves are emboldened by the warmer weather to seek out RV’s to steal – at a time when many people want to enjoy the season and not deal with incidents of crime. RV’s are large and expensive vehicles, making them highly sought after targets for thieves – and thieves have no difficulty finding ways to commit RV theft despite their large stature. When RV’s are stolen, dealerships are left to deal with replacing the expensive inventory when they could be selling the vehicles to legitimate and enthusiastic buyers.

RV thefts have continued to plague dealerships and owners across the country. In February 2024, thieves made off with an RV from a local dealership in central Alberta valued at $120,000. The theft occurred during the late night or early morning hours when no staff was present on-site. The Police appealed to the public for security video of the crime because there was none available from the business itself to aid in the investigation. (1)
In April 2024, Waterloo Regional Police investigated the theft of a trailer that contained two RV’s valued at $500,000. The Police eventually located the stolen inventory but the investigation remains ongoing as to who committed the theft (2). In May 2024, the OPP sought suspects in the theft of an RV from a business in Clarence-Rockland, ON valued at $163,000. The theft occurred during the early morning hours, where thieves hooked the trailer to their truck and made off with the very valuable RV inventory, with no intervention or proactive security in place to deter the theft. How can we prevent RV theft so they stay in the hands of the dealerships that own them?

How do we help with RV theft prevention?

Artificial Intelligence has changed the face of security

Artificial intelligence has been a hot topic in recent months, and it has many practical applications within the world of proactive security. Our AI platform is continually learning and adapting detect criminals in a variety of conditions and property types. AI differentiates human movement from other kind of movement on-site – objects, weather patterns, wildlife, and more. This allows our Monitoring team to make quicker and more effective deterrences, so they can deter RV thieves from striking.

Video Security Units create a wireless envelope of protection

Our Video Security Units create an entire envelope of protection around RV dealership lots. Our proprietary cellular LTE+ platform creates a wireless security grid to protect your property. As the perimeter of the RV dealership would be lacking in hardwired Internet connections, our wireless units can be easily installed and up and running within minutes. All video data is sent back in high resolution to our Live Remote Video Monitoring Facility, over our secure MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) network, ensuring your security footage is kept in the right hands.

syncroDetect adds supplemental protection

RV dealerships contain many areas that are vulnerable to crime – offices, storage rooms, as well as outbuildings and inventory trailers that require protection. Wireless door and window contact sensors will sound of entrance and exit points are breached, and indoor motion detectors will alarm if movement is detected. Together, they provide the ability to outfit storage trailers with an additional layer of security. Our syncroDetect alarm system is a robust solution that helps prevent the theft of valuable inventory from RV dealership lots.

Video Review and Investigations paint the whole picture

The ability to review security footage is also key to discovering necessary evidence and help to prevent future losses. Our Investigations team has the ability to look through footage archives to get an accurate picture of what occurred. Our cameras record 24/7, even outside standard monitoring hours, and that footage is available to view instantly. This can assist businesses and law enforcement with collecting video evidence that supports investigations, as criminals often tend to case properties for weaknesses before committing crimes.
