November 30th is National Computer Security Day. With cyber-attacks being an ever-increasing threat to businesses and their data, how do we employ our cutting-edge technology to provide powerful and effective network security?

What is National Computer Security Day?

November 30th is National Computer Security Day! In this increasingly digital world that we live in, computer and network security has never been more important. We all depend on computer and network technology on a daily basis, for both work and individual pursuits: smartphones, tablets, and laptops have all become part of our everyday lives. The information contained within these devices, as well as information stored in the cloud, can be vulnerable to attack from a multitude of sources. National Computer Security Day was created to shed light & awareness on the dangers of cyber attacks, and inform the public on how to better protect themselves and their data amid an ever-changing technological landscape. With so many bad actors trying to gain access to data and identity information, proper computer and network security is essential. Many of these individuals try to exploit security flaws and collect this data illegally. Data can range from private company information to employee and customer data that can seriously affect businesses, and individuals, if they are compromised. These malicious individuals employ a multitude of methods to gain access to data – viruses, malware, phishing scams, and more. To that end, data and network security is of great importance to keep digital assets secure and prevent losses.

Even large corporations and organizations are vulnerable to attack.

Despite their large scale and resources, even large corporations are vulnerable to cyber security attacks. In September 2023, Air Canada was the victim of a large security breach that resulted in the leak of employee data. Although no customer information was compromised, the very fact that cyber attackers could penetrate the security infrastructure of such a large organization is certainly alarming. Not only did the security breach affect Air Canada, but it caused service interruptions at several Canadian airports – only proving how cyber security attacks can be far and wide reaching. (2)
In 2023, it is estimated that data breaches cost Canadian businesses a total of $5.6 billion on average. In addition to the financial damage that can be incurred, businesses also lose customer trust when a breach occurs. It is reported that 81% of customers don’t trust companies to protect their data and thus won’t become repeat customers – even if the company in question offers a product or service that the customer is interested in. The result is a cascade of issues – loss of customer data, the need to hire more cyber security experts, employee training, all of which lead to price increases and a loss of trust for customers when breaches occur. In many instances, businesses don’t employ proper cyber security measures until after an attack has already happened. (3)

Caliber's Video Security Units are protected by network security
Our clients entrust us to keep their data safe and secure. As a provider of advanced security solutions, we pride ourselves on our proprietary cellular LTE+ platform, our robust camera technology, and our effective Live Remote Video Monitoring service. Our network security is of equal importance, and we approach it with the same forward-thinking mentality as we do with all of our security offerings. All of our data is transferred on a secure, custom MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) network, which creates a closed-loop communication system that is independent of public Internet traffic.
This means that all communication between our Video Security Units and our UL Certified Monitoring Facility are private, secure, and confidential. Our cellular LTE+ platform technology is completely wireless – eliminating the need for hardwired Internet connections that are vulnerable to attack and are at higher risk of intrusion. Our team works 24/7 to monitor our network and identify any potential security threats. Moreover, we are constantly striving to improve our network technology to create even more robust and effective digital security measures to protect our clients and their data. Innovation is at the heart of everything we do – and we bring that mindset to both our proactive security solutions and internal network security.

Cyber attackers are always seeking new ways to steal and exploit important data – with our revolutionary cellular LTE+ platform and network security technology, we always strive to keep that data secure to protect the interests of our clients.
