Utilities and critical infrastructure are the backbone of our economy. The constant and consistent uptime of these essential services are imperative in maintaining a well-functioning economy across the nation. Interruptions to these services pose a serious risk to our nation’s security, the economy, and the overall wellbeing of its citizens. The origins to the interruptions of these services are commonly traced to the act of metal theft occurring on site.
Utility corporations often store large amounts of valuable copper wire and other precious metals on site, which are often targeted by thieves, leading to disastrous consequences. While the need for security and the detrimental effects of metal theft are understood across these industries, there are a plethora of factors that must be considered when securing utilities and critical infrastructure.
Infrastructure losses, such as disruption of power, water and gas delivery can be monumental, especially when considering the revenues lost from generation and distribution. Additionally, the threat of injury or loss of human life is a constant threat if trespassers can breach these locations. Our live remote video monitoring service is proven to yield results to the problems experienced in the utility and critical infrastructure industries, providing effective and advanced security solutions.

We have engineered these advanced security solutions for every critical moment.

Every second is critical in Live Remote Video Monitoring.

The utilities and critical infrastructure industries face the constant threat of theft, vandalism, and potential for injury and loss of life on site. Metal theft experienced across these industries is proven to have disastrous consequences if it is not mitigated with a robust and tailored security solution.
With the value of precious metals steadily rising over recent years, incidences of metal theft have also grown exponentially. Criminals will often damage fence lines in order to gain access to locations that house precious metals. Once a site has been breached, criminals will then attempt to move wire spools into a vehicle, or cut potentially energized strands of wire found throughout the location.  Not only do the risks of injury scale exponentially the longer an individual remains on site, but tampering with and damaging energizing equipment can also be lethal.
In order to combat metal theft and prevent the injury or loss of life on site, we strategically deploy our modular security units to cover all essential areas of the location, such as fence lines, gateways, roadway entries & exits, material laydown areas, machinery, and building access points. Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence driven analytics, our live monitoring operators utilize the high-resolution cameras found on our security units to conduct real-time surveillance of a location, while keeping watchful eyes over suspicious or potentially criminal activity that can occur on site.
When a potential security risk is identified on site, our operators use PTZ (pan- tilt-zoom) cameras to zoom in and acquire court quality evidence of the incident occurring in camera view, and will capture identifiable features of the individual, such as clothing brands and colours worn, hairstyle, ethnicity, and even the vehicle driven and license plate numbers, if applicable. This thorough detail collection aids in the successful apprehension of criminals once law enforcement arrives on site, and provides ample evidence for an arrest even if the suspect flees the area prior to their arrival.
Our operators deliver voice commands to individuals on site via our live communications speaker, which is built into every security unit and allows for specific and live deterrence. Voice commands are an incredible tool to deter criminal activity as operators can speak directly to the appearance of the individual and their specific actions on site.

Our Innovative Approach to Utilities & Critical Infrastructure Security

Remote Solar grid in a snowy environment with mountains
Utility and critical infrastructure facilities are often located in remote areas that leave them completely vulnerable to the threat of theft and vandalism. Due to how remote these installations can be, emergency services such as police, fire, and medical services may require more time in order to respond to an emergency call. In addition to these extended response times, law enforcement will require verified video evidence of a crime taking place before dispatching officers to the location.
Any chance of successfully apprehending criminals on site is completely dependent on the effectiveness of the security system on site. Prior to our innovations in the remote video monitoring industry, other offerings could not effectively secure these remote locations in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Remote locations provide a monumental challenge to traditional security providers who rely on cabled internet on site. Traditional security camera systems that require hardwired internet on site are bottlenecked by limited network speeds, resulting in a degradation of image and video quality.
This service bottleneck creates a distinct inability to clearly identify criminal activity on site in time for a police response, or for court proceedings seeking civil restitution. In order to receive service that matches the scale of risks on site, the utility and critical infrastructure industries require a security offering that can scale technology to meet their stringent requirements.

Remote applications? Easy.

Our team of highly skilled professionals developed a propriety communications platform that operates on the cellular LTE+ network. This eliminates the need for hardwired internet on site and has been proven to satisfy the specific needs of utilities and critical infrastructure. Our proprietary communications platform offers exceptional advantages over traditional security systems using hardwired internet on site, such as industry leading download and upload network speeds, full-resolution image and video quality, and unmatched signal range. Our security units feature proprietary range extension technology onboard that boasts twice the range of the average cellular device, and when paired with our solar kits, can service even the most remote locations.
These features of our proprietary platform allow for the fastest possible detection rating, false alarm mitigation, and verified video evidence of criminal activity taking place on even the most remote sites. We provide law enforcement with the best chance of apprehending criminals on site, no matter how remote the location is.

System and monitoring uptime are of the utmost importance when monitoring utility and critical infrastructure services that cannot be disrupted. Hardwired security cameras all share the same hardwired internet connections on site, which creates a single point of failure. If the hardwired connection on site is severed or experiences a drop in internet connectivity, the entire security system is compromised and creates a tremendous security risk on site.

We are Canada's most secure Remote Video Monitoring provider.

Empty nuclear power station remote video monitoring control center
Utility and critical infrastructure entities will always have strict network security measures in place that will either reduce or limit the flow of inbound and outbound information from their internal networks. These network protocols also inhibit the downloading of third-party applications and software, which makes viewing live camera feeds burdensome. Other market offerings will provide access to a third-party application that will require network permissions to download and run in order to view their live camera feeds, if they offer live viewing at all.
In the instance the approval of the application download is permitted, a security risk remains due to the uncertainty of where the live camera feeds are directed to and stored. In security, transparency is key and nothing should ever be second guessed.
The technical prowess of our team of engineers has led to the creation of a custom communications protocol that provides you with direct access to your live camera feeds in syncroReports, without the need for downloading third-party software. As the world shifts deeper into a more connected and technologically advanced society, we understand that security requires both physical and digital protection today.

We provide Total Security.

Our engineers developed a proprietary cellular-based communications platform to have both the physical and digital security of our clients in mind. Utilities and critical infrastructure organizations house private and classified information over their networks. This information is crucial in maintaining the services that are essential to the operation of all areas across the nation and cannot afford to be at risk of intrusion from outside sources.
Our proprietary communications platform operates on the largest MPLS network across the country that ensures our security operates completely off the grid from public internet traffic. All of our security units can only be accessed by our team at Caliber Communications, and all communications to and from our units, such as live feeds, is encrypted and is only shared with authorized personnel.

Security that is Engineered to Suit.

Our engineers have designed our security units to be modular, and completely self-contained. Each unit houses independent communications onboard in order to meet the stability and system integrity utilities and critical infrastructure require on site. The independent and wireless communications onboard our security units guarantee that our service will never fall victim to outages caused by damaged or cut internet cable lines on site that other security companies on the market contend with.

Our units are standard equipped with one ultra high-resolution PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera which allows our monitoring technicians to conduct live video patrols, actively surveil the site, and zoom in to capture specific data for court quality evidence. This camera utilizes Diffuse Infrared technology which allows for excellent image quality at night.
All our units come with a minimum of 2 high-resolution Diffuse Infrared Cameras that utilize state-of-the-art night-vision technology, providing excellent ‘near daylight’ image quality during night hours.
Our remotely triggered strobes are used to deter intruders, and let trespassers know there are surveillance cameras on site. They also assist law enforcement in identifying the specific location that is being trespassed.
Our team has engineered a customized VoIP protocol that runs independent from monitoring within our infrastructure. This makes our live communications & deterrence speaker system incredibly clear and reliable.
Our internal expansion port allows for the efficient integration of additional security peripherals, ranging from thermal cameras to plate readers. This allows us to design application specific security solutions to meet the most stringent site requirements.
Our unit ships standard with 2TB of video recording capacity, providing a minimum of 21 days of video storage; optional expandable harddrive storage of up to 12TB of capacity, providing up to 18 weeks of video storage.
Our video security units are 3rd party Inspected and Electrical Safety Compliant, having undergone rigorous evaluation & inspection to ensure that all electrical and safety standards are met on site. This effectively prevents any hardware complications, issues, or danger that could potentially arise from other offerings deployed in these strenuous conditions. Our security units are manufactured using NEMA 4X rated enclosures, and are proven to operate consistently in suboptimal weather conditions such as rain, snow, and sleet. NEMA 4X rated enclosures also ensure protection from corrosion, and particles such as dust and ash, which can degrade internal hardware components.
Our modular suite of security units can mount to power and lighting poles, building corners, rooves and walls, as well as tripods and are live to monitoring within minutes of their installation. Furthermore, our Mobile Units can be deployed immediately on a location that does not have any viable mounting solution on site, and can also be equipped with Solar Panels in order to secure even the most remote sites lacking shore-power.
Our devices are equipped with a series of high-resolution cameras that contribute to the acquisition of court quality evidence. All Caliber units feature stationary cameras that provide fixed views of entry points to the location, such as gates and fence lines, while also securing laydown yards, wire spools,  site trailers, and machinery.
Our operators utilize PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras to follow and zoom in on trespassers in order acquire identifiable features, including facial features, clothing worn, and even ethnicity. We equip our units with high-visibility blue LED strobe lights to serve as focal deterrents by alerting criminals to the presence of our units. The strobe light is also an indicator for alerting law enforcement to specific locations of interest when they are responding to acts of crime on site. Live communications speakers onboard our units allow operators to communicate directly with the trespasser on site and call out their specific actions. Thermal cameras can also be utilized to detect criminal activity in poorly lit and completely dark environments. In order to effectively combat internal theft, conduct internal investigations that require a high degree of discretion, or provide an additional layer of protection and evidence gathering, we can facilitate the creation of covert security units that are tailored to blend in with the environment they are deployed in.

Our Wireless Intrusion Alarm System.

Utilities and critical infrastructure are under the constant threat of theft and damage occurring on site due to the rising cost of precious metals & materials. The uptime of these essential services are imperative for maintaining the daily operations that keep our country running and economy healthy. Due to the dynamic nature of these industries, the movement of precious metals, equipment, and machinery is to be expected. These assets can often, unintentionally, be stored outside of camera view or require additional protection. Environmental factors, such as the remote location for some facilities, can also provide a challenge to secure assets in these vulnerable areas. We engineered a new intrusion alarm system capable of security these assets once considered difficult, if not impossible.
syncroDetect is our premier intrusion alarm system that bolsters our existing remote video monitoring service, to provide total security coverage. Through the use of advanced wireless alarms and sensors, syncroDetect provides additional security coverage to assets on-site, and protection to those that are stored outside of camera view.

Storing an industry-leading, minimum of 21 days of video footage internally, with the option to expand this to up to 18 weeks of storage. These stored feeds are used for video review and investigations. We created a dedicated team of investigative professionals whose focus is on obtaining court quality evidence of different incidences that have occurred outside of monitoring hours, as per requests of our clients.
Upon concluding an investigation, informative reports that contain high-resolution photos and videos are created that summarize the timeline of events that have taken place on site. Once these reports are completed, they are submitted to authorized contacts for potential civil and criminal litigations.
Our video review and investigations service is an incredible tool to track there whereabouts of workers arriving and departing site, deliverables arriving on site, suspicious activity, and even damages that have taken place on the property outside of monitoring hours.
syncroReports

This is Utilities & Infrastructure Security made simple.

Laptop displaying the SyncroReports security information reporting platform dashboard
Prior to our arrival, all other iterations of security monitoring lacked transparency as to what activities were occurring on location, in real-time. This lack of transparency creates little to no communication, and reports of an incident that actually occurred on site would be provided well after it had already taken place. We found this to be an unacceptable approach, as communication with your security provider is an integral piece to effectively securing a property.
All information observed and recorded by our monitoring operators are logged into our proprietary security information reporting platform, syncroReports. This software was developed in house to offer a high level of transparency to clients that was not offered by any other security companies. Critical information such as the number of trespassers on site, issued voice commands, and number of crimes deterred and police calls are logged in real-time within syncroReports.
From the sharing of information via in-depth security reports to timely and customizable alerts, syncroReports ensures consistent communication is kept with utility and critical infrastructure personnel, without any second guessing as to what is occurring on site at any given time. Recognizing that utility and critical infrastructure facilities will often not allow for third-party software downloads, syncroReports was developed to be accessible across any network and any mobile device.

How's that for transparency?

SyncroPlates- Logo
Entryways, gates, and roadways are covered through the use our license plate reader cameras that feed all captured plates into our intelligent license plate reading system, syncroPlates.
We implemented a Caliber site-wide approach to security by notifying our clients of previous flagged suspicious or blacklisted vehicles upon their arrival on site, regardless of which location they originated from. This is an incredible tool when tracking suspicious individuals that will try to access more than one location that is covered by our network of Caliber equipped locations.
Using our license plate reader cameras, syncroPlates intelligently captures the alphanumerical values of a license plate and stores them within our database, which is Canada’s largest civilian plate database. Once a plate has been captured, a log report is generated containing a high-resolution photo of the vehicle on site, as well as date and time stamps of their arrival. Personal whitelisting and global blacklisting of license plates is also possible, ensuring your site is protected from any suspicious vehicle that has been identified across the entire network of Caliber secured sites.

syncroPlates also supports both full and partial license plate recognition, which has proven to be useful when identifying vehicles with intentionally obstructed license plates arriving on site. Both full and partial license plates are searchable within your own plate database.

We are the only company able to offer this solution for Utilities & Critical Infrastructure.

syncroAlerts- Logo

syncroReports also features another industry first, developed by our dedicated software engineers. syncroAlerts is a proprietary module that provides real-time reporting of incidences occurring on your sites. These alerts arrive via your choice of email and/or SMS messages.
syncroAlerts offers customizable alerts that can be filtered by activity and action filters including, but not limited to, trespasser on site, suspicious activity, police called, workers on site, and gates left open. Customizable time and day filters allow authorized personnel to choose when they want to receive specific security information at their fingertips, on their own schedule.
In conjunction with syncroPlates, syncroAlerts automatically informs clients when a blacklisted or suspicious vehicle previously identified by our monitoring operators arrives on your location. Criminals will often target multiple construction sites when committing theft, including sites across multiple cities. We have engineered a solution for this multi-site targeting as well. Our engineering team has scaled syncroPlates and syncroAlerts to offer blanket protection by providing warning of the arrival of a suspicious vehicle, regardless of which Caliber monitored site the plate was identified on.

Alerts arrive at the critical moment... in real time.
