Acts of theft and vandalism have significant financial and logistical impacts when a facility is left unprotected. Criminals that breach these facilities often will have their eyes set on stealing precious metals.
Theft of assets and resources, such as precious metals and tools create significant financial losses. Destruction of property on site, such as machinery cause extensive setbacks in project timeliness.
Trespassers that gain access to these locations strip precious metals from equipment and machinery. Tampering with machinery such as drilling rigs and distillation units causes mechanical failure, petroleum refinement slowdowns, and the need for expensive repairs.
Catalytic convertors and copper wire are also among the most at-risk metal-based assets found in refineries. Even though the oil industry operates 24/7, and 365 days of the year, this does not stop criminals from attempting to steal precious metals or vandalizing assets.
Our live remote video monitoring services are the solution to deter these crimes from oil extraction & refinement facilities.
The typical constraints of securing Oil Processing Facilities.
The size and scale of the oil industry presents many insurmountable challenges for traditional security companies. Video monitoring quality is only as capable as the network it operates on. Other video security companies facilitate the installation of their systems through cabled internet on-site.
This method of installation is flawed by design and, until our arrival, has served as the primary means of network communications in the security industry.
Hardwired network connections vary in available transmission speed and bandwidth. Fluctuations in speed and bandwidth result in the degradation of image quality and poor video frame rates. The quality of the video stream is then compromised, leading to the inability to identify individuals on-site.
Cabled internet is also prone to network failure caused by inclement weather, Internet Service Provider outages, and tampering by individuals on-site. When connectivity is lost, the monitoring service is rendered useless. Installation of lengthy cable runs, digital video recorders, and security cameras is cumbersome, but also expensive.
The technology driving the oil extraction & refining process has improved over the years...
Shouldn’t your security companys'?
This is our refined approach to Remote Video Monitoring.
Our team of engineers have developed and patented a proprietary communications platform that operates on the cellular LTE+ network. Wireless in nature, our proprietary platform provides network connectivity to our video security units without the need for cabled internet.
This connection offers significantly faster network speeds and the bandwidth required to stream high-resolution video into our state-of-the-art Remote Video Monitoring Center. These video streams are impervious to image quality and frame rate losses due to network constraints experienced by cabled internet. Additionally, connectivity to our security units will never be lost due to damaged or cut cable lines.
High-resolution video streams are essential when detecting criminals on site and capturing their identifiable features, such as facial characteristics, ethnicity, and clothing worn.
These full-resolution video streams are essential when capturing a trespasser’s identifiable features and evidence of their criminal activity for court quality evidence.
We created an innovative approach to remote video monitoring that synergizes the near limitless potential of artificial intelligence analytics with the intuitive recognition of a human operator. Our operators watch for and deter criminal activity in oil refineries & extraction sites using our video security units.
Upon the installation of our units, we strategically place a variety of security cameras that all serve a specific purpose when utilized by our monitoring operators. High-resolution stationary cameras provide exceptional views of fixed areas of oilrigs and refineries, such as drilling yards, laydown areas, building accesses, and fence lines.
Once suspicious activity is identified, monitoring operators utilize PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras to follow and zoom in on individuals to capture their identifiable features, including clothing worn, ethnicity, and even facial features.
Our operators directly communicate with individuals on site, calling out their specific actions through our live communications speakers. Voice commands give operators the ability to call out the actions of the individual and present them with a warning that police will be dispatched if they do not leave the premises immediately. Optional license plate reader cameras can cover all entrances and gates surrounding oil refineries. Our prioprietary syncroPlates system captures and stores license plates of all vehicular traffic entering and leaving the facility.
A high-visibility LED strobe light is also equipped on our video security units to function as a focal deterrent. By drawing the attention of a trespasser to the presence of our units, they are made aware that their actions are being monitored live. LED strobe lights also provide law enforcement with an indication of where criminal activity is taking place if they are dispatched to the facility.
See what our valued clients & law enforcement have to say...
"In December 2020, we had a major theft at our main oil battery that caused over $50,000 in damages, not including lost production for the 3 days we were down. This was a very sophisticated robbery with an elevated level of expertise used to pull it off. This motivated us to up our game from a security point of view, and we reached out to Caliber for the solution. The word is getting out to the criminal community in our area and our sites are less attractive for criminals to come and steal from us, thanks to Caliber’s remote video monitoring service."

Our Wireless Intrusion Alarm System
The process of oil extraction and refinement takes place in areas where infrastructure is limited. With petroleum refinement serving as a critical process for everyday life in society, it is imperative that all areas and assets are as secure as possible. Due to the large scale of drilling areas and oil refineries, and structures blocking camera views, gaps in video coverage can occur. We have developed an innovative, additional layer of security that provides protection to assets in vulnerable areas.
Designed specifically to reinforce our existing video monitoring capabilities, our syncroDetect wireless intrusion alarm system facilitates the protection of assets in areas where video coverage may be difficult. Motion Detectors and Door & Window Contact sensors can be equipped in locations that are susceptible to theft and vandalism. These areas may include drilling rigs and distillation units. Once criminal or unwanted activity is detected, our operators quickly dispatch police, as well as any requested authorized contacts within your operation.
With an effective range of up to 2 kilometers (line of sight), our operators will be notified of any activity on site from distances once thought impossible to cover. SyncroDetect features battery life of up to 5 years on the core system, and up to 8 years on peripherals, ensuring long-lasting protection of your facilities without the need for routine service calls or battery changes.

syncroDetect operates on our private, and Canada’s largest MPLS network. All communication between syncroDetect alarms and sensors are completely isolated from regular internet traffic. This bypasses the risk of intercepted data communications between devices, and ultimately prevents unauthorized access.
Our remote video monitoring service, coupled with syncroDetect & our network security platform, provides total security of your assets, property, and the data communication throughout your drilling and oil refinement operations.

Investigations & Video Review
Our commitment to safeguarding the process of oil extraction and refinement goes beyond our standard monitoring hours. We understand that incidences occur outside of these hours. Theft, vehicle accidents, damaged equipment, and even workplace accidents are among some of the incidences our cameras have captured outside of monitoring hours.
By integrating an industry-leading minimum of 21 days of video storage into our security units, we can facilitate 24/7 video recording of all activity within camera view.
Operations managers can request video footage of a specified incident from our Investigations & Video Review team. Our team conducts video investigations of any incidences that occur on your sites.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, our team creates informative reports containing a summary of the requested incident that has taken place, alongside high-resolution photos and videos of the incident occurring.
This is Oil Extraction & Refining Security made simple.
Oil extraction and refinement operations occur every day of the year and require consistent communication to operate smoothly. With employees routinely changing shifts, constant vehicular traffic on site, and deadlines to meet, operations managers simply do not have the time to be left second-guessing the security of their assets.
We have created a revolutionary tool to inform operations managers of all activity that occurs on site: syncroReports. This is the world’s first security reporting platform, developed in house by our team of software engineers. All observations made throughout monitoring hours are carefully audited and logged by our operators into syncroReports, in real-time.
Log reports contain a summary of events and high-resolution photos of any incidences that occur on oil refineries. Key site-specific security information, such as trespassers on site, crimes deterred, issued voice commands, and police calls are tracked and stored indefinitely in our proprietary system.
syncroReports also functions as an intuitive daily operations tool. Authorized users can check in on the arrival of employees, deliverables, trades and even the arrival and departure of vehicles on site.
Unrestricted access to your live camera feeds without the need for third party downloads is also available. All information is made available for review in real-time and across all of your smart devices.
How's that for transparency?
Oil refineries and drilling sites may operate all day, and every single day of the year. With workers, trades, third party services, plant inspectors, and criminals visiting the site, it is evident these locations experience high volumes of vehicular traffic. We developed a revolutionary way for operations managers to keep track of vehicles arriving and departing their drilling areas and refinement plants.
Using our proprietary neural net and license plate reader cameras, we created Canada’s largest civilian license plate database: syncroPlates. This system intelligently captures the alphanumerical values and photos of a plate then converts them into metadata. Time, date, and location data are integrated into a high-resolution photo of the vehicle that is then stored into syncroPlates.
syncroPlates provides operations managers with the tools to search for any vehicle on-site through their plate number. Our database supports full and partial plate recognition to capture vehicles with obstructed license plates caused, which is a common tactic of criminals. This system also allows you to check in on the arrival and departure of specific vehicles. The tracking of employees, trades, deliverables, site visitors, and suspicious individuals has never been so simple.
License plate blacklisting and whitelisting allow you to be as specific as you require when securing your properties.
Suspicious vehicles can be blacklisted to restrict access to the facility. The arrival of suspicious and known individuals, such as criminals and irate employees, will trigger an alert to you and other specified contacts. With Caliber-wide license plate blacklisting of all previously identified suspicious vehicles, we are providing you with an additional blanket of security for your locations. High-resolution photos, regardless of time of day or night provide law enforcement with the actionable evidence they require to make apprehensions even in instances where criminals flee your mining operation.
We are the only company able to offer this solution for the Oil Industry.
Our proactive approach to monitoring extends to how we communicate with members of the oil industry. Upon our discussions with industry figureheads across North America, we learned that the sharing of security information at timely intervals was never communicated to their standards. To rectify the lack of communications members of this industry faced, we created syncroAlerts.
syncroAlerts provides real-time alerts of all activity that takes place on your oilrigs and refineries through email and SMS messages. Customizable activity filters allow authorized personnel to select which activities they would like to be notified about. These activities include trespasser identified on site, voice commands, and workers on site, among others.
Time and date filters provide you with the option to receive security information on your own schedule. Filterable by days, hours, and minutes, you take control of exactly when you want to be informed of specific activity.
Alerts arrive in real time, as you requested them.
