Even remote properties require security – construction, critical infrastructure, and more. With these isolated locations at even greater risk for crime, how can proactive security keep them protected?

The need for security on remote properties is clear.

A multitude of sites across the country require security protection – including remote, isolated sites where implementing traditional security solutions is difficult. Many of these remote properties – from construction sites and hydro properties, to recycling and mining facilities– often lack access to traditional infrastructure, including access to wired network connections. In addition, some of these sites may lack a traditional power source altogether, something that most security systems rely on to provide site protection and coverage.
Some remote properties are on the outskirts of a town or city, on the edge of where access to power and Internet is available – some are in more distant locations that are even more disconnected from the infrastructure that they require. For example, a construction site may be building homes in a developing area – where grid power and Internet will be provisioned, but in the earlier stages of construction these necessities may not be immediately available. These sites still require a high level of protection to keep them secure from trespassing, vandalism, theft, and other crimes.

Remote locations are left unguarded more often due to the isolated nature of the location; there may be less people around in the vicinity to witness and alert authorities to the crime being committed if there is no security present on-site. Many remote locations are also in parts of the country with extreme weather conditions – which increases the risk of ice, snow, dust, and debris causing electrical issues within the security equipment. Harsh weather can also cause power grids to fail which then in turn affects any security units dependent on that power. What is needed is a proactive security solution that can thrive under any weather conditions, stay powered on when it matters most, and deter criminals from striking at these remote sites.

A proactive security solution that protects remote locations and rural areas:

Remote locations require a security solution that stays operational in even the most outlying locations. A key advantage to our proactive security solution is our proprietary cellular LTE+ technology – we leverage this platform to wirelessly connect our Video Security Units anywhere in North America that has cellular signal coverage, utilizing revolutionary data compression technology that provides high-resolution streams while saving on bandwidth. For more distant locations that may not have cell towers close by, we utilize range extension technology that is capable of doubling our units’ signal range.  This patented cellular technology is the backbone of our Live Remote Video Monitoring service, and facilitates the transmission of data from the remote location back to our UL Certified Monitoring Facility. All video footage and accompanying data is fully encrypted to maintain the security of all information being transmitted, creating a complete envelope of protection. Through leveraging our proprietary cellular platform and data encryption, we provide an effective cellular security solution at a fraction of the cost of other providers.

Our Video Security Units are engineered to perform and thrive in a variety of remote environments. They come equipped with two stationary cameras to establish perimeter protection and situational awareness, and a PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera that drills in on details in high-resolution – providing high-definition, court-quality images. Each Video Security Unit has fully independent communications onboard. This means that in the event that one unit in the security grid fails due to a power disruption or hardware failure, the others will stay fully operational to continue to provide security coverage. Due to their wireless nature, deploying our Video Security Units eliminates the need to run wires and cables throughout a property, which is particularly vital on remote construction, oil & gas, mining, and hydro sites where wired solutions could impede work or cause further delays if those cables are maliciously cut or damaged.
All video feeds are surveilled by our Live Remote Video Monitoring team who act as the eyes for remote sites – utilizing proactive deterrents such as bright, LED strobe lights and loud, authoritative voice commands to warn trespassers and potential criminals that they are being monitored and to desist in their actions. Leveraging the power of our proprietary Artificial Intelligence system, our Monitoring Operators can easily detect human movement coming from any direction on remote sites. If someone attempts to trespass onto the property, our Monitoring team will be there to catch it.

What can be done to power the security system in remote areas?

Remote properties often lack access to traditional power sources – our Video Security Units can connect to existing power generators on-site and be up and running within minutes and Battery Backup & PSU systems are there to provide power in case of any outages; our Automatic Power Switching system will engage if power is lost unexpectedly, or when generators are turned off when the workday ends. These Battery Backup Systems have an extended battery life and can be run on different schedules depending on the needs of the site. Our 24-hour system can power a Video Security Unit for a full day if there is a planned outage or if power is known to be intermittent, and our 72-hour system is useful for longer periods when there is no power present or a generator isn’t manned. This is critical at times when generators are powered down during non-working hours (over evening and weekends).
We also have dedicated Solar and Mobile Security Units that are ideal for remote locations with very little to no power infrastructure. Our Solar Unit is a modular solution that offers low power consumption and a low carbon footprint, harnessing the power of solar energy to keep security up and running on remote and underdeveloped locations. Our Mobile Security Unit is our security solution on wheels – ready to hit the road and provide remote sites with robust and effective security. Both come equipped with the same powerful high-resolution cameras and deterrence measures as our traditional Video Security Units – to provide proactive security that is modular and adaptable to the needs of remote sites.
Weather on remote properties can be volatile, especially in Northern regions which experience a variety of extreme weather conditions. The technology of our Video Security Units are housed within NEMA 4X Rated Enclosures – built to last and protect from liquid, rain, ice, dirt, dust, and debris. By utilizing these enclosures, we ensure that our Video Units will stay operational during various climate and site conditions across remote locations.

Even when you’re nowhere near the remote location, our syncroReports platform allows you to stay connected & updated with all the occurrences on-site – as if you were physically there yourself. Through live video feeds, PTZ camera control, and detailed log reports, you will be kept in the loop with every aspect of your site security – anywhere, anytime.

Remote and underdeveloped properties are often distant, and disconnected from the infrastructure and resources they need to implement traditional on-site security. By leveraging cellular technology, live video monitoring, and backup power systems, we help to protect and secure these vulnerable sites with the same effectiveness as anywhere else.
