Condominiums are bustling residential areas that see high amounts of traffic, making them a potential hotspot for criminal activity. Due to this, proper security measures are critical for the safety of the condominium property.

Condominium Security Threats

Whether it’s the tenants, guests, or individuals living in the surrounding community, condominiums are vulnerable to a variety of security threats. Theft & break-ins are one of the most prevalent security threats that are found in these locations. Multiple access points and shared spaces such as gyms, pools, parking lots, and rec rooms make condominiums an easy target for a skilled thief.
Busy city street with cars and pedestrians- Various office and Condo skyscrapers
An example of this type of theft occurred in the parking lot of a condo building in Toronto, Ontario, where more than 20 vehicles were broken into overnight. The thief entered the vehicles by smashing the windows and then proceeded to steal various personal items that were left in vehicles(1).
Another common security threat within condos is vandalism/property damage. A troubled condo building in Saskatoon is a prime example of what can occur if thorough security measures are not in place. Video shows multiple physical altercations occurring in the hallways and lobby of this condo building, as well as residence vandalizing the property, dumping garbage, and conducting in various other unhealthy living practices(2).
Even though the aforementioned building had security cameras, these cameras are reactive in nature, meaning that the footage is only reviewed after an incident has already occurred. These reactionary systems do not provide a means for active deterrence of threats.

Other security threats include:

Storage & Utility Room Break-ins
Car & Bike Theft
Trespassers
Fire

Our Proactive Condominium Security Solution

When it comes to condominium security, we believe a proactive approach is the most effective to ensure the safety and security of the property. Firstly, anti-trespassing and surveillance warning signage is placed at each access point to the condo property.
These signs are a simple but highly effective way of deterring criminal behavior. Our industry leading security units are strategically placed around the perimeter of the site, and in view of the entry points. Each unit comes equipped with high resolution stationary cameras, and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras with custom analytics and AI designed to assist our video monitoring operators in the detection of trespassers & criminals.
Once a trespasser is identified on our security cameras, our highly skilled video monitoring operators will utilize various security peripherals to deter the suspect. Voice commands are issued as a vocal deterrence, warning the suspect that they are trespassing on private property, and if they don’t vacate the premises the police will be contacted. For a visual deterrence, our operators utilize our blue LED deterrence strobe to warn the suspect that they are trespassing.
Additionally, this strobe light can be used to assist law enforcement to the location of the suspect, if they are dispatched to the property. If the suspect still refuses to leave the property, our video monitoring operators will contact local law enforcement, and provide them with critical details such as suspect description, location, and behavior. Once the police are dispatched, our operators will continue to monitor the suspect and gather any additional details that can further assist the police in the apprehension of the suspect, and subsequent court proceedings.
Once the incident is contained, our operators will log a detailed report into our security information reporting platform, syncroReports. This platform is the access point for your teams’ in-depth security reports, robust analytics, live security feeds, and various other useful tools for all of your sites.

For an additional layer of security, we engineered a wireless intrusion alarm device, syncroDetect. This devices comes equipped with both wireless door & window contacts, and wireless motion detection sensors that are placed at access points to areas of importance such as mail rooms, and utility or condominium storage lockers.
When a sensor is tripped, an alert is sent directly to our UL Certified monitoring facility, where our operators utilize our high resolution security cameras to gain a visual on the area of concern, and if necessary, contact the police.

Overall, by deploying our industry leading security devices and innovative video surveillance & alarm service, we are able to keep your condominiums secure from theft, property damage, trespassing, and other security threats.
