The majority of our highly skilled video monitoring operators work on the third shift, meaning that they are busy detecting and deterring criminal behavior during the darkest hours of night. For these reasons, we have equipped our operators with high-resolution security cameras that have integrated IR ‘night-vision’ technology.

What is IR Night Vision?

Our cameras are fully equipped to protect assets even in the dead of night due to internal Infrared (IR) technology. This internal system consists of physical IR cut filters that are utilized automatically during the day to block the infrared colors that are picked up by CMOS camera sensors(1). Without an IR cut filter, the security footage would be distorted, often presenting a bright pink/red tone to the footage(2).
During the night, our cameras identify the absence of light and automatically switch to ‘night mode’, which changes the camera to a black and white color palette, whilst removing the IR cut filter. This removal allows the full amount of light to hit the camera sensor, in turn, providing significantly increased visibility for our video monitoring operators.
In addition to improving low light visibility, when ‘night mode’ is engaged, high power IR LEDs flood the area with invisible infrared light. This allows our long zoom PTZ cameras to gather higher quality security footage, in comparison to cameras that are not equipped with this technology.

The Benefits of IR-Ready Security Cameras:

Studies show that theft on locations such as construction sites are most likely to occur at night – when nobody is present(3). This study proves how critical effective IR technology is for providing after hours site security. While more urban areas will often have external light sources to keep the site illuminated at night, our IR technology is even more important to provide effective security for remote locations that are left in complete darkness:

Our operators utilize this IR technology to not only detect the suspect as they enter the site, it is also used to collect specific details such as physical description, location, and behavior, which are then provided to police, if and when required. This information and high-resolution IR imagery & videos are compiled into incidents reports for you to access, giving you the complete story of your site security. This information and additional security metrics can be accessed anywhere, and on any internet-capable device, through our security information reporting platform, syncroReports.

At the end of the day, it is imperative that our operators maintain visual acuity at all times, even as the sun goes down. We achieve this by deploying high-resolution security cameras with integrated IR technology, which ultimately gives our operators full sight in the dead of night.
