Distribution Centres experience a large amount of inventory flowing in and out every day. Due to this traffic, it is important to implement effective & thorough security solutions to monitor and prevent the loss of revenue that occurs when thieves strike.

Internal & External Theft at Distribution Centres:

Every 11 days in North America, warehouses will incur approximately $500,000 in losses due to a variety of risks(1). One of the most prevalent factors contributing to these devastating losses is theft.

Theft comes in many shapes and sizes. Warehouses often have a wide variety of individuals accessing the facility, whether they are dropping inventory off, picking up, or just general in-house employees; the mix between different companies, and positions can create an influx in theft. This includes all internal theft committed by the workers that pass through these types of facilities, such as stock clerks and truck drivers.
On top of the theft that occurs internally within distribution centres, there is also a large amount of external theft opportunities present. Earlier this year, a Hamilton, Ontario warehouse was the target of a major theft when a trailer with over two million COVID-19 PPE masks went missing(2).
This shipment of masks was slated to be picked up by a courier service, but was stolen by thieves right from the warehouse before the courier driver arrived(3). As of today, the stolen PPE masks have not been recovered.

Our Security Solutions for Distribution Centres

Our industry leading security devices and innovative video monitoring services are an effective solution to the aforementioned security threats that distribution centres face on a day-to-day basis. No trespassing & video surveillance warning signage is deployed around the perimeter of the site as a first line of defense against criminal activity.
These signs provide an early deterrence measure by clearly showing the suspects that the site is off limits and their actions are being monitoring and recorded. Through strategically placed high-resolution stationary cameras and PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras, we are able to effectively monitor the perimeter of the facility and any areas of importance.
When suspicious or criminal activity occurs in the view of our cameras, our highly skilled video monitoring operators utilize security peripherals to deter the suspect. Voice commands are issued from our live communication speakers, warning the suspect that they are being monitored & video recorded, and to leave the property immediately. For a visual deterrence, our operators utilize a highly visible blue LED strobe light.
If the suspect cannot be deterred through these means, our team immediately contacts local law enforcement informing them of the incident and provides all the relevant details to aid in their apprehension of the suspects.
While the police are on route, our operators continue to monitor the suspect, gathering any important information that can assist the police in making an arrest, and any subsequent court proceedings. Once the threat is contained, an in-depth security report is logged for key contacts to access through our proprietary security information reporting platform, syncroReports.

For areas that require an additional layer of protection, we deploy our wireless intrusion alarm device, syncroDetect. This device can be equipped with both wireless door & window contact sensors and motion detection sensors. These sensors are installed in areas such as equipment/storage lockers, inventory storage bays, valuable heavy machinery, and entry points to off limits areas.

Health & Safety Video Monitoring

Distribution Centres are bustling work environments that are laden with many dangerous hazards. Because of this, it is crucial to implement proper health & safety measures to not only protect your workers from injury or death, but to also protect the company working environment & culture.

Our innovative health & safety video monitoring service is a very effective tool that can be implemented as a standalone program, or integrated within the company’s existing health and safety protocols. Through our video monitoring security devices, our operators are able to surveil the facility during hours of operations. When safety concerns such as tripping hazards or spilled liquids are observed, our monitoring team will contact the client or supervisor, who can deal with the safety hazard appropriately.
Additionally, our operators are trained to monitor the workers and enforce site specific workplace healthy and safety protocols, when necessary.
Examples of these protocols include wearing proper PPE, tying down if working at heights, and the proper operation of equipment. If a violation is observed, our operators will direct the worker through our live communication speakers, as well as contact the client, informing them of the incident.

Overall, whether it’s the mitigation of internal and external theft, or the enforcement of health & safety protocols, our industry leading security devices in tandem with our innovative video monitoring services are the right solution for your distribution centre.
