Whether it be power outages or a lack of infrastructure, the ability for security solutions to stay powered during these moments is crucial to the protection of sites of all kinds. How do our Battery Backup & Power Supply Systems help ensure proactive security is maintained at all times and when it is needed most?

All security systems need power, and often sites that need protection are in remote areas with little to no electrical infrastructure – which means we have to provide a proactive security solution that can operate when there is no power present, or if power is intermittent.

Our Battery Backup & Power Supply Systems are engineered to integrate effortlessly with our Video Security Units and any on-site grid power or generators, and they ensure the units will stay fully operational during both intentional and unintentional power outages; whether planned or unplanned, power outages are always a concern if there is an active security system on site. Whether it be a construction site or similar property, there are several ways we utilize Battery Backup Systems to provide around-the-clock protection.

How does the system work when there is a loss of on-site power?

Our Battery Backup Systems have an extended battery life and capacity to account for a wide timeframe and provide full protection:
Our 24-hour battery system can cover a full day if there is a power outage or power is going to be intermittent, while our 72-hour system is useful for longer periods when there is no power present and a generator isn’t manned, such as a construction site where workers are off for the weekend and are not present to operate equipment.
Automatic Power Switching engages once grid power is lost or powered down, providing a continuous supply of power that keeps your site secure.  Our Battery Backup Systems also utilize instant ‘System Active’ alerts through our syncroReports software which notify our team and clients if there is a power loss. This allows all parties to address the situation quickly and restore power in a timely manner.

What are some key advantages & uses of these powerful systems?

1. Powering down for planned maintenance & installation

Depending on the site or project, power may need to be intentionally shut down for on-site maintenance, installation of new equipment, or additional infrastructure. In the event that an outage is planned, our Battery Backup & PSU Systems ensure our Video Security Units stay functional during these periods. Our 24-hour system is ideal for situations like this, when power is expected to be restored within a relatively short timeframe. It can connect to existing power on site or a generator, and it runs on a timed circuit so that the system can be engaged on a schedule or programmed to engage when there is low sunlight.

2. Utilizing on-site generators

Many construction sites and similar properties may initially lack a conventional power infrastructure while the project is being completed, so they rely on generators to provide the power they need while on site. If there are manned generators that are operating during the day, the battery backup system taps into these gen-sets to charge for 8 hours with that charge then covering the power needs for the remaining 16 hours of the day. That ensures the Battery Backup System is holding a full charge leading into the off hours and nighttime hours when our Live Remote Video Monitoring team takes the lead.

3. Leveraging 'Light Standard Powering'

We can also charge our Battery Backup Systems using ‘light standard powering’ – tapping into existing street light poles to charge the units for when they’re needed most. Utilizing adapters that can integrate into a light pole, the units can then take on a charge. Street lights are found nearly everywhere, allowing us a wide range of locations where we can charge our units. The ability to adapt to the existing environment and provide security solutions that can connect to the local power infrastructure is key to providing proactive security that stays functional and operational at all times.

Ensuring system efficacy with Third Party testing:

Ensuring our Battery Backup & Power Supply Systems maintain their charge through a variety of expected weather conditions is of paramount importance to us. In light of this, we worked with our 3rd party hardware engineering partners to put our units through a rigorous testing process to ensure they are ready to withstand the elements and keep power flowing.
Our 24-hour system is run-time tested by simulating real world conditions to confirm a 24-hour runtime on a single VSU (Voltage Storage Unit) – including hot and cold conditions. Our Video Security Units and Battery Backup Systems were tested in a temperature controlled chamber where three test cycles were conducted simulating a typical Summer Day, a Warm Winter Day, and a Cold Day.
This testing proved that our units can function in a variety of expected weather conditions. Additional simulations to test their efficacy during both daytime and nighttime hours were conducted, which is essential when deterring crime at night is one of our primary focuses. In all three simulations, our battery unit maintained a minimum of 24 hours of operation.
