While material theft and vandalism are common construction site crimes, they are certainly not the only crimes that occur. The theft of construction site trailers has been a trending crime in 2022, and without proper security measures in place, your site may be at risk.

The current threat of construction site trailer theft:

Whether it’s as a temporary site office, break room, or storage room, site trailers are critical for the day-to-day operations of a construction site. The trailers themselves are valuable assets that can cost into the tens of thousands, with the value only increasing as they fill up with pricey construction equipment, digital devices, and important documents.
This type of theft is becoming so common that in the first 4 months of 2022, the Waterloo Region in Ontario experienced 17 reports of trailer thefts from private property and construction sites(1). As this is only one region within the country, it shows how critical it is to deploy the proper security measures to keep these assets on your site, and not in a thief’s possession.
In Milton, Ontario, a site trailer that was outfitted as a lunch room for workers was stolen between the days of July 14th -15th, 2022(2). This trailer contained a variety of lunchroom equipment, and the actual trailer was valued at $10,000.
Not only is this a costly theft, it is a major inconvenience for the operations of the site, as the workers were left without a place to take breaks and escape from the mid-summer heat.
