Our innovative live remote video monitoring service provides an industry leading level of security, but our video security devices and peripherals can be utilized for much more than that. Learn about the top 7 reasons why you need live remote video monitoring on your construction site.
1. Asset Protection & Security
Trespassing
Trespassing is not only worrisome for the contractor, but also dangerous for the individual committing the act. Navigating a live construction site poses many hazards for those that are not equipped with the proper protective equipment, or knowledgeable of the terrain. More often than not, trespassers may not even realize that they are trespassing. To prevent this, it’s important to take proactive steps to secure your site such as setting up perimeter fencing and deploying ‘no trespassing’ signage around the perimeter.
Theft
Due to the rapid rise in material prices, there has been a significant increase in material theft across North America. Between expensive materials, valuable tools & equipment, and heavy machinery, construction projects can have hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of assets on site at any given time. When theft occurs, the impact on the project can be catastrophic.
Vandalism
Vandalism is another security threat that can have serious impacts on a projects’ budget and timeline. Vandals often target construction sites because there is little to no security that is often present. Vandalism occurs in many levels of severity, including destructive teenagers or even spray painters looking for a new canvas. No matter who it is or why they do it, these crimes can have serious effects on your construction site.
Our Solution:
How do we help protect your construction sites from these threats? The answer is with Total Security Solutions. Through the utilization of high resolution security cameras in tandem with our video monitoring service, we are able to detect and deter criminal behavior before it happens. Along the perimeter of the construction site, our technicians position large deterrence signage to inform would-be criminals that the location is under live video surveillance.
If a trespasser enters the premises, our video monitoring operators will work diligently to deter the criminal. Voice commands are issued to let the suspect know that they are on site illegally, their actions are being monitored by live video surveillance, and that police will be dispatched if they do not leave the premises immediately. To assist in thwarting crime, our operators utilize our blue LED strobe lights to provide a visual deterrence to the suspect.
If they still refuse to leave the site, our operators work closely with local law enforcement to apprehend the suspect. For locations that may require an additional level of security for high value assets, we install our wireless intrusion alarm system, syncroDetect. Using both wireless motion detection sensors and door & window contact alarms, we are able to secure valuable areas such as buildings, site trailers, heavy machinery, and sea cans.
2. Fire Hazards
Fire is a common threat that could have a devastating effect on your construction site. Fire can quickly spread throughout the site, destroying buildings, materials, equipment, and even causing harm to workers.
When a fire is detected on-site, our video monitoring operators will immediately contact the fire department, whilst utilizing our security peripherals to help evacuate the location.
3. Workplace Injury
Construction sites can be a dangerous and unpredictable place. In 2018, 1027 construction workers died from work-related injuries in Canada. A large portion of these deaths may have been avoided if workers were using proper PPE (personal protective equipment) or following proper health & safety procedures. Not only is neglecting proper health and safety potentially dangerous for your workers health but during routine site inspections, penalties can be issued to companies who’s workers are not following the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). These can quickly add up, costing your company up to millions of dollars’ worth of fines.
Our Health & Safety monitoring service is designed to mitigate workplace injuries by enforcing proper Health & Safety practices and ensuring the correct procedures are followed. Common workplace health and safety violations include not using proper PPE, not engaging in social distancing, or not tying down when working at heights.
Our video monitoring operators are specifically trained to identify workers who are not following these practices. Once identified our operators will communicate with them through our live communication speakers or contact their supervisor letting them know of the situation, depending on the requested protocol.
4. Public Protest
Most wouldn’t think that public protests would be a security issue on construction sites but it is not completely uncommon to find passionate activists protesting outside of a site for a variety of political or social reasons. Protest can quickly spin out of control, causing large amounts of damage to the area.
Utilizing trained security personnel can be an appropriate solution for keeping a public protest civil. In certain instances, we have worked with physical guards who are professionally trained in crowd control & de-escalation techniques that can be used to de-escalate individuals who are getting out of hand, and keep a crowd at bay until law enforcement arrives.
5. Environmental Hazards
Rain, wind, and snow are three of the most common hazards that can negatively impact your construction site. Storms can quickly tear through your site, causing damage to structures, equipment, and infrastructure such as downed power lines.
After a storm, it is important to survey your site before your employees return to work. When our video monitoring operators observe any environmental damage, they create a detailed report explaining where and how the damage occurred. This report will be immediately accessible for review in our security information reporting platform, syncroReports.
6. Project Management
Managing a construction site can present many unique challenges and difficulties. Our live remote monitoring service is not only effective for security, but it can also be a very useful project management tool.
Through our live video feed module in syncroReports, our clients are able to monitor their site for things such as site progression, workers on site, verifying deliveries, and whether the site has been properly closed down at the end of the work day. These live video feeds are accessible in real time from any computer, tablet, or phone making it very easy to keep tabs on your project.
7. Investigations & Video Review
While most criminal behaviour occurs at night during our standard monitoring hours (6pm to 6am on weekdays, and 24 hour coverage on weekends), it is not uncommon for incidents to happen during the day, when workers are on site. That is why our video feeds are recording 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, even when they are not being actively monitored from our UL Video Monitoring Center.
Our investigations team are proficient in reviewing these feeds and providing detailed reports on their findings. A few common examples of incidents our team would investigate are internal theft amongst workers, internal worker disputes, and vehicular accidents. Our investigations & video review service are the ideal avenue for providing perspective to any incident caught on our security cameras.
