Wireless security technology is an innovative solution to keep sites and assets of all kinds secure. When hardwired and ethernet connections fail, what options do businesses have for protection?
Going wireless in a wired world.
Our modern world has become more and more dependent on Internet connections – whether they be wireless or hardwired; businesses of all kinds rely on these connections for a multitude of purposes. The security industry utilizes Internet connections in a variety of ways – and wireless connections are becoming even more crucial to the success of businesses who are looking for modern security solutions that are dependable and adaptable.
What happens to security when landlines are cut?
Back in March 2023, Cogeco customers in the Windsor, Ontario region were affected when a fiber cable on a construction site was cut, leaving them without internet for several hours, while crews attempted to diagnose the problem.
Service was eventually restored but not without inconvenience to customers and businesses in the area. While wired internet connections on various sites can provide fast service, there is always a chance those lines can be severed or interrupted – whether it be during an excavation on a construction site or some other type of work being done. There is always the possibility that wired Internet connections can fail when we need them most. (1)
Canada specifically has a telecommunications infrastructure carried over vast distances that are covered by underground cables. While this infrastructure was key in establishing communications for Canadians across the country in previous years, it has now become antiquated and requires crews to dig and update these lines – from the traditional landline cable in years past, which has now been replaced by newer technologies like fiber optic cable. Even with this updated cable, it is still susceptible to interruptions as a result of unexpected work being done near or over those lines.
With our proprietary LTE cellular security technology, we take the uncertainty around landlines out of the equation, and deliver security that is fast, reliable, and there when you need it.
How does our proprietary wireless LTE platform benefit businesses?
All of our security devices use our proprietary cellular LTE connections to provide next generation surveillance coverage. Many sites, especially remote construction sites, lack the necessary telecommunications infrastructure and landlines needed to run most security devices – that’s why we’ve developed our security devices to operate in a wireless environment.
Our Pole Unit can be mounted anywhere on a site – it features two high resolution stationary cameras, and a PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera that can send high resolution video (via cellular data) back to our UL Certified Live Remote Monitoring Facility. We first establish a power source; if no power is available on site we can provide our own generator charged Power Supply systems or Solar Units.
Each individual Pole Unit connects wirelessly to nearby cellular LTE towers and stays fully functional, even in the event of power loss, network connection, or hardware failures within one of the other units. The power of wireless technology is especially effective in remote areas where hardwired connections aren’t possible, providing a security solution that is completely wireless and dependable.
How do our security devices take advantage of wireless technology?
Our security devices provide a wireless solution that is beneficial to businesses of all kinds – the evolution of the security industry requires continual technological improvements… and we’ve made huge strides when we developed our proprietary & patented Cellular LTE driven security devices: with their ability to function independently, compress large amounts of video data, and be installed with ease.
Data & file compression technology
File sizes have a big impact on how well wireless connections function, especially when there’s large volumes of video data involved. Our team has patented a next generation LTE data transfer platform that compresses high-resolution video that travels over the national cellular networks with no additional charges in bandwidth. Through these LTE networks, we’re able to transmit live video feeds monitored by our Operators, as well as images sent through for detections, license plate recognition, and health monitoring. There is no loss of video quality along the way, and clients are able to view the high quality video themselves through syncroReports.
As a result of developing and implementing this revolutionary compression technology, we’re able to keep data costs low and provide an affordable security solution that doesn’t compromise image quality or connection integrity. This saves clients the headache of slow connections, and helps us to provide the essential on site security coverage that they require – both fast, and reliable.
Accessibility & Ease of installation
The placement of Ethernet cables on a site can be a long, complex, and expensive process; one that can result in project interruptions when digging trenches to lay this cable. Security solutions should provide a quick and effortless setup that avoids the hassles of changing or developing site infrastructure for the sole purpose of security – especially if it is only temporary, such as protection during the build of a construction site.
Our security units come pre-assembled to allow for a quick and easy installation, with no need to attach the cameras to existing wires and internet infrastructure. Installation of the units can be completed in just under 30 minutes per unit. This allows us to get your security solutions up and running as quickly as possible so your site isn’t left vulnerable. Once your security cameras are set up, our Health Check System will help to maintain the units on site – in the event of any issues, technicians will be alerted and be able to assess and resolve most issues remotely, keeping your property secure.
Unit Modularity & Independence
Many security devices require hardwired Internet connections, which may lose connection or become unstable when public internet traffic in the area is high. Furthermore, due to the nature of wired internet, each unit will be connected to the same Ethernet access point – this creates a single point of failure if the network becomes unstable, or loses connection completely.
Our units are engineered to function completely independently – meaning they can stay connected even in the unlikely event that another unit within the system falters. This is key to our wireless security solutions – staying online, even when everything else is offline.
This provides seamless coverage of our clients’ sites, and provides an additional layer of protection when it is needed most. In addition, our security units are modular and fully customizable to match the specific needs and security applications of our clients. Our ability to adapt and create solutions that marry together with specific security needs is what makes Caliber’s technology stand out in the marketspace.
syncroDetect Wireless Alarm System
Another added layer of protection for our security solutions is syncroDetect – there to provide total security coverage in a completely wireless environment. Using the same cellular communications platform as our other devices, it seamlessly integrates with our video surveillance systems, while pushing the boundaries of overall security, safety, and asset protection.
syncroDetect allows us to offer a cost-effective method of providing additional security, especially in areas where cameras may be temporarily obscured, or if there is a momentary change in equipment placement, particularly on properties like construction sites. Our intrusion alarm sensors on doors/windows and indoor motion detection sensors operate completely wireless, and are equipped with a battery backup that can last up to an average of 5 years, with 8 years of battery life on the sensors. This system reflects our commitment to continual technological advancement that we then pass along to our clients – to provide a safer property, more efficient operations, and peace of mind.
Implementing a robust security system is necessary to keep your site and assets secure – avoid connection issues, expensive data charges, and technological headaches by taking advantage of Caliber’s wireless Cellular LTE security solutions.
