April is Earth Month – as we move into the future, how can our sustainability efforts as a security provider protect our clients’ properties while also contributing to a better future for our planet?

The history of Earth Month.

Earth Month takes place during April every year – as spring dawns across the country, it is a time to raise environmental awareness around issues that affect Mother Nature and our planet as a whole. During this time, leaders and environmental activists from around the globe will convene to create and develop sustainable solutions to benefit our planet and chart a course for a more environmentally-friendly future.
Earth Month was first created after a series of major environmental incidents occurred in the late 60’s and early 70’s, inspiring a group of activists to dedicate themselves to promoting environmental awareness. The first Earth Month was celebrated on April 4th, 1970 and by 1990, it became a global event with 200 million participants from 141 countries. (1)

Climate change continues to be a major issue facing our planet.

Industry creates greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns across the globe. Some of these shifts can be natural, but many have been driven by human activities such as burning fossil fuels and the generation of greenhouse gasses. In 2024, the average temperature of the Earth’s surface is 1.1 degrees Celsius warmer than it was during the 1800’s, and warmer than at any time in the last 100,000 years. In addition to the devastating effects climate change has on the planet, it can also have an adverse affect on our daily lives – our health, ability to grow food, our housing, as well as our safety and work. Many agree that climate change is a big challenge to overcome, but the solutions are already available to us to help stem the tide of its effects. This includes switching from fossil fuels to sustainable energy systems such as wind and solar power. (2)

A proactive & sustainable security solution.

Our proprietary technology and proactive security solutions are engineered with sustainability in mind. We continue to leverage solar power as one of the major sustainable technologies we use – our Solar Video Security Unit is a robust solution for remote sites where no electricity is available. It makes the most out of the solar energy it collects – operating with low power consumption, which allows for fast battery charges, and continued operation during extended ‘no sun’ periods.
The Solar Unit requires no grid power or existing infrastructure, and is easily set up and ready to go live quickly to protect your property. It operates with zero emissions and a low carbon footprint, utilizing little to no additional resources to provide security protection.

Our Manufacturing team build our units with sustainability as a core mantra, and utilize recycled materials when feasible in a classic “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” approach:

We use internal hardwiring that is reusable and interchangeable between our units, and we’ve cut down the overall weight of our units from 53lbs to a mere 16lbs – reducing manufacturing materials in the process.
These sustainability efforts not only result in more efficient security for our clients, they also benefit the environment as a whole. Through these efforts, we bring security and sustainability together.

How can we be more sustainable in our daily lives?

Use less plastic and switch to reusable containers
Drive less and use carpooling or public transit
Conserve water
Go paperless wherever possible

These are just some of the ways we can affect change in our daily lives and provide a better future for everyone. (3)

This Earth Month, let’s focus on protecting the Earth by adopting more sustainable practices to ensure our beautiful planet is enjoyed by many generations to come.
